Octatrack Black - Made in Poland?

yes, so… 20 yrs of advertising and emphasizing of ‘‘made in sweden’’ suddenly means nothing now?

look, i don’t care tbh but let’s just be fair here!

p.s. made in poland is probably good enough for me.

Interestingly their linkedin profile says “designed in Sweden” but the Google cache preview for that page still says “made in Sweden”!

I dont’t generally buy into marketing, made in sweden doesnt really tell you much about the quality of a product. China makes most of the electronics in the world anyway, and the parts Elektron uses are made in China. It’s just meaningless now, when supply chains are global and fine tuned to ridiculous heights.

Hah, do you think someone read this thread and changed it hoping no one would notice?

Busted! :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

‘‘All instruments are made in Sweden and rigorously, individually tested before being unleashed worldwide.’’

  • Elektron, Superbooth 2018

marketing or not but it means something to most ppl, otherwise Elektron wouldn’t advertise it like that

Obviously it means something to them (and possibly you), but I don’t think either of us can speak for most people.

Someone should email them and ask what is made where now.

If you want a Swedish assembled one. Do we buy a grey one? Or are all of them built in Poland now?

Porsche, Range Rover … well, these are made in Slovakia. Sorry to spoil the party. This discussion is really sad. I thought it will never make up to more then 2-3 posts . I do understand your point of view and I do not think your posts were off or over the line. Not sure why these were flaged tbh. I like these discussions and always was happy to be part of this great forum for the variety of opinions. To be fair - I do recall that Elektron did highlighted that machines are Made in Sweden on their web and other mkt communication channels, so I agree this was made as a proud statement. Maybe they were happy the Estonia part was also moved to Sweden. Keep it it under one “umbrela”. Maybe the Apple way - Design in calif. Made in China - would work better. As for what my sticker say I do not care, direction Elektron will choose in the next few moths, years, that I do care.

there’s a huge difference between Who and Where versus How and Why.

I agree that it doesn‘t tell anything about quality but at the same time we could bring the discussion up if the boxes are not overpriced as fuck then for what they are. If they where build by behringer everyone would agree that they are, soo quality is indeed at least something which is used to justify high prices. So away from nationalism you can at least ask the quality question if two versions from two different locations exist I think.

Its very easy to talk trash like this but have you even bought a black OT2? So much easier when your shooting bullets from a distance .

Nah, everything I have is incidentally Made in Sweden and I couldn’t be happier.

Thought so

Eh, so you think I’d think differently if all my Elektron’s were made in Poland? Hah, I doubt it very much as I completely love my Lyra8 and it’s made in Poland. Actually I’d rather all my gear was made in Poland, as they did such a great job with the Lyra8.

Its much easier to not give a xxxx when your not financially involved in something thats all . Your money your decision.

I had a black Octatrack & it came with debris & scratch on the underside of the screen. Was really tiny so I just said whatever. Didn’t bother me as much if the screen was on. After a week and a half of using it, I turned it on the other day and it was completely bricked.
How many grey units has this happened to? Not questioning the quality. Im just guessing it’s bad luck on my part. Besides those 2 things, the build quality was otherwise phenomenal.

I’ve read about both those problems in the Mk1 & Mk2 over the last few days.

I have no idea, probability of that exact thing happening to multiple units is pretty low though. Much lower if they’ve been assembled in different factories. The only way to find out if the Polish made OT’s have more defects than earlier models would be from Elektron support.

You’re talking about quality as if the country of manufacturing is the only thing that makes a product of high quality. It’s not only about that. It’s also about e.g. what kinds of parts are used. The Elektron jacks, buttons and knobs are of very high quality (and therefore more expensive) when compared to e.g. Behringer, and regardless of in which country the final product is assembled, expensive parts will still be more expensive than the cheap wobbly Behringer knobs.

As someone else already pointed out in this thread, a manufacturing process can be designed in one country and when it’s done, moved to another. Behringer is known for having a low-quality manufacturing process and bad quality control. When you buy an Elektron product, you’re paying for that good manufacturing process and better quality control. Once the manufacturing process has been established in Sweden, it can be moved to any country.

Swedish manufacturing people don’t get paid more because they’re better at their work than Polish workers. They get paid more because Sweden has a higher cost of living.
