yeah, in the Netherlands there is also a SP16 user that was contacted by the development team for feedback, and he mentioned he also has some new pioneer stuff at home, dunno what exactly, but it seems they are still actively working on things.
logically at some point they will release an update with new features.Īo one ever knows.
Am I missing something with the FX on the SP? If I use the delay on a hit, say a hi hat, and the effect is still active when the next trig plays the delay is cutoff immediately. Iām so used to Elektron gear with delay as a send that I canāt find a way to use the insert fx on the SP.
Is this how it works and if so how do you use the FX without the cutoff being noticeable?
For my needs, which are fairly techno oriented, the FX are enough for live use. Otherwise Im just making a sketch and rendering to my DAW. But Ill take any updates they want to give us
I donāt know about that. Can you post a video? Delay on my unit doesnāt do that. Just rings out no matter how many trigs are on the step sequencer.
Thatās weird. Maybe reinstall the firmware.
I was going to say even when I have two or more sounds on a choke group the delay doesnāt get cut off.
Nothing seems truly surprising anymore in these times but a substantial update for the sp-16 would really surprise me. I didnāt even update to 1.6 because I donāt care much for the effects and I was kinda worried that something else would stop working (and I can manage without the underscore for my sample names lol).
Is somebody using it together with the Digitakt? I got the DT a few months ago and was planning on having it sequence the SP-16 tracks also, havenāt tried it yet though. Unfortunately the sample slices cannot be addressed with midi notes individually, that wouldāve been great.
Anyway, I still love the SP-16, itās kinda like the Digitaktās bigger and mentally underdeveloped brother, who has a beautiful singing voice though
Anyone have any idea why I canāt get my SP 16 to talk to my computer!?! Plugged USB into the device and into PC, and have put the SP 16 in mass storage modeā¦ but it just says āconnectingā (on the SP 16) and isnāt discoverable on my PCā¦ what am I doing wrong? Any idea on what I am missing here. Canāt see anything in the manual. Running latest firmware etc.
Ignore me. Iām being very silly-sorted now!!!
Thanks for the reply. I havenāt installed the firmware again but with a new project this is wha happensā¦
Track 1 select a sample
Set delay on slot 1
Set delay time to 1/8 and feedback to 70 so itās obvious
Place trigs on 1 and 9
Plock delay mix ratio 40 on step 1
When I press play trig 1 sounds with delay but this delay is cut when trig 9 plays with no delay.
Is that normal?
Thanks.
Yup. Sounds like itās working like it should. In your original post I didnāt see where you were plocking the mix knob.
The locks are per the step and the delay is an insert. OT works the same way.
Plock the second and third trigs to keep it open
Yes, this is what happens, I just tried it out. The problem ist that the next trigger takes over and the mix ratio of 0 immediately cuts off the delay feedback from the previous trig. Forget it Jake, itās Toraiz Town
I tried to work around it with a parameter trig - if you set one of those right after the second trig and p-lock the same delay settings as on the first trig, the delay does seem to fade out as one would expect, but I canāt tell if this sounds the way it would without the cutting off behaviour and it is of course a terribly inelegant āsolutionā.
Thanks.
I canāt remember my OT doing this when I had it. But maybe Iām mistaken.
Itās certainly a different way of working.
You are so very spot on here. I tested it yesterday quite a bit. The factory delivered Loopmasters samples are (imho just) ok, but the SP-16 really lived up, once i started sampling from Microtonic Patternarium. Wow, what a combo. I am still on Elektron sequencer mode and i have to adjust my habits quite a bit to gain full control over the SP-16 sequencer. But thatĀ“s just a matter of time. I really like it so far. If AlphaTeta will ever discontinue this productā¦it will become an overpriced classic on the s/h market.
IĀ“ll continue exploring the possibilities by using it in the Steve Reich/WIlliam Basinski way of loopingā¦
If this thing ever gets streaming and polyrythms per track, Iām back in.
Maybe.
The Blackbox is becoming very difficult to beat, with the pace and quality of 1010ās updates.
If weāre talking about great free sample sources, Iāve got to recommend Music Radar. Theyāve got something like 70k free samples and loops organized in packs by theme. A lot of them are cheesy, but some of them are absolute gold. Even some of the lower quality ones may be workable if you chop them up. Some good bread and butter loops and fills in there if you go digging.
Alpha Teta no longer exists, Toraiz is under Noritsu Koki
Yea. I swear drag and dropping files and recording things into it sound completely different. Even sampling direct from my ipad or phone w/o a proper interface from YouTube the samples end up w this sparkle on them.
Iāve been recording my Mono Station through a Warm Audio Tone Beast into the SP-16 as well and its just pure joy (obviously more than the SP going on there, but still).
The way it handles live looping, to me, seems obviously made for DJs/live use. Iāve never tried a looping pedal before because on paper they never seemed quite what I wanted. The SP-16 is what I wanted. But then again, I was already thousand of dollars invested in the Pioneer DJ ecosystem soā¦lol.
Ive probably said it here a few times but agreed this is a future classic in the making. I never seriously considered buying a back up of a piece of gear before. But I may just do it w the SP-16.
Oh yes, you mentioned it above, I forgot. I found a paper inside the SP box, saying that Pioneer DJ is now just a trademark, not a Company any longer, owned by AlphaTeta.
Buy a DJS-1000 as a ābackupā

Sounds like fun! I have the AS1, need to try that. so much options.
