Pioneer Toraiz SP-16

Oh I thought you meant sampling VSTs into the SP.

Iā€™m sorry if I look stupid, but Iā€™m probably doing something wrong I can not do it. Someone who has tried to do the same? I do not know if I have the right settings I have tried many times.I have also tried usb midi without result

Send screenshots from your toraizā€˜s midi settings, the pads youā€˜re using + the screen, abletonā€˜s midi settings and your track setting in ableton

ok, so looking at your settings I have to ask again what you are trying to achieve?

You currently have Pigments going into the second midi track as a midi source and out to your Toraiz SP-16 Midi Channel 1. Why did you choose to do this?

If you are looking to control & play Pigments from your Toraiz SP16 (so you hit a pad on your Toraiz and a sound comes out of Pigments through your computer speakers), you wonā€™t need that second midi track at all. The ā€œMidi fromā€ section of the Pigments track just needs to be set to ā€œAll inā€ or ā€œToraiz SP16ā€ and you need to arm the track. thatā€™s it.

If you are looking to send midi data from Ableton to your Toraiz, youā€™d achieve that by setting a midi trackā€™s ā€œMidi Toā€ setting to Toraiz SP16 as well as the appropriate channel. This is what you have in track 2 (track 2 sends MIDI data to pad 1/channel 1 of your Toraiz). This way you can play the samples loaded onto the Toraizā€™s pads via the Ableton sequencer & clips.

If you are trying to pass AUDIO from Pigments into your SP16, that cannot be done via the USB cable and/or via Midi, there youā€™ll need an audio interface and audio cables to make that work (or at least a cable from your laptopā€™s headphone jack to the Toraizā€™s inputs).

Let us know what exactly you are trying to achieve and Iā€™ll try to guide you to the right settings.

Ī¤hanks for the help.Ī™n the last example I want thisĪ¤o pass audio!!But when I send from the macbook to sp16 in the inputs it will not hear anything in the headphones.Īothing sounds.Ī‘s if I send from the outputs of motu ultralite mk2 to sp16 the inputs again nothing sounds.

@panoskona I think you need to set one of the pads as a ā€˜thru trackā€™ to monitor the audio coming in via inputsā€¦ the midi track will send/receive midi info but need to enable a thru track on a separate pad to pass audioā€¦ I think. At least thatā€™s the only way I was able to work it when I had it

This is correct. You sacrifice a pad for incoming audio, although you can apply effects.

Fuk yeh! We have similar tastes in ergonomics

Iā€™ve had a long evolution to my beat-making setup but this is where it has ended up. The DTā€™s 8 midi tracks sequence the first two rows of SP padsā€¦ the next 4 up are long one-shots, and the top row are infinite loops (can be muted as needed)ā€¦

A4 sequences other gear and does all the other synth things it does so well. The TR-6S adds extra ACB/FM percussion, and itā€™s sequencer makes you write parts differently than on Elektrons.

Sweet! Looks great!
Yeah, having a DT for ā€elektron-sequensingā€ some SP-pads sounds lika a really great idea. The A4 aswell.

Some deeper ways for sequensing is my biggest wish right now.
I am mostly depending on the midi-sequenser in the SP16.
Using the internal sequenser in the SH01 for bass and pad stuff is quite fun but limited.
I bought a DN Keys last year because of its sequensing possibilities but keep it in the box at the moment. Got no space for it but want to keep it for later.
Should have went for the non-keys version to make it fit right in. Dont know what happened.
But a A4 would be fantasic.

Always interesting to hear how people use the SP in setups! :grinning:

Big up the people using external sequencers with the SP-16. Maybe Iā€™ll have to start using the M:S for this myself. Personally, Iā€™ve not missed not missed the Elektron sequencer yet but Iā€™m just making house and techno.

For me the biggest mystery remains how exactly I want to use the SP-16 to ā€œperformā€ my own tracks in a DJ set as thatā€™s how I justified buying it.

Torn between using the ā€œrawā€ versions of tracks I start on the SP-16 and finish in my DAW or trying to take tracks apart after I finish them and load the pieces back into the SP-16. Havenā€™t had much chance to experiment especially now that Iā€™m neck deep in grading final essays at the end of the semester lol.

Can someone help me out ā€¦ not an SP-16 owner ā€¦ from this screen (or from anything like it, where you can see the timeline of all tracks in parallel) can you directly edit the sequence ? That is, insert and delete trigs at least ?

Iā€™ve tried looking in the manual and tutorial videos, but they donā€™t seem to cover this ā€¦ Iā€™m guessing it came in a firmware update.

Not individual notes. You can copy and move whole bars of tracks or multiple bars.

Does anyone have any ideas for angling this thing up a bit? Peering over it for long periods of time is no good for my neck.

I use a $15 Ikea laptop stand.

Are you guys talking about this one?

Yeah!

Yea, thatā€™s the one. It actually works quite well for a lot of samplers, drum machines etc. I donā€™t even remember what I originally bought it for. And I need another one for my RD-8.
