i feel quite content with my 707, but if maschine+ doesn’t have any serous drawbacks i think i’ll go with it
Since only “Selected instruments, effects, Expansions, samples, and loops” are allowed to run in standalone mode, I am mildly disappointed.
I would have considered it if I could run the $1,000 in NKS I own outside of those “selections”. It could have been huge to have an effective single box solution for all of Komplete, Arturia NKS, and U-he NKS.
Perhaps some day? And this is just a step in that direction?
You do get the normal Maschine compatibility across the board with controller mode, so what happens if you use those products in controller mode and then go into standalone, are those tracks just muted now?
But even then for $1400 + tax it wouldn’t have been a done deal. There’s workflow to consider, integration and synchronization with other gear (latency since it is indeed a computer), and other things.
I’m also getting kinda hooked on battery powered operation now as well, so really a MK3 and my MBP would be more sensible.
If I was already a heavy Maschine user, this would be a no-brainer, sell what I can to make it happen, kinda announcement for me.
Oh well, back to the Octatrack…
It looks great but I realise these days that my interest is just GAS. Having a Maschine+ won’t help me finish tracks or improve my creativity. Dawless is just a fad. I don’t need a Maschine+
I’ll probably get one.
Right, maybe if it could be USB powered it would be feasible.
I’m thinking of getting this and splitting off from single music center. Instruments/Synths and then DAW composition elsewhere.
Then I could use the power adapter with my synths and then just plug it into my computer.
I wasn’t sold before, but I’m trying to find some benefit before going down the mk3 route. Every benefit has its own detour to it
Like others have mentioned, I want to wait for Ableton to play their hand before I move toward any of these new daw-in-a-box solutions.
Man, I’m just unnecessarily upgrading myself.
My #1 reason for even wanting Maschine+ to begin with is the closer integration to Komplete Kontrol- since that’s most of the software instruments I use.
And that big reason will be omitted in the prime selling point of the +.
As far as Ableton, if they make a standalone device- I hope they’ll rework the form factor of the push. I can’t say what it is, but something about it doesn’t jive with me
ooh didn’t catch that. disappointing indeed. maybe I should hold onto my dreams of a Deluge after all…
I bought NI FM7 years ago. I need to look up whether there’s some sort of upgrade path to this thing, since it can run FM8 standalone. Gotta agree with Mr. Kirn on this one - last week, we’re geeking over TR8S running FM, and now this thing comes out that can run FM8 onboard.
I also need to confirm whether it can load Reaktor and FM8 patches created by other users.
Has to be said, I’m impressed by the promo campaign… nice to see a decent amount of details and a launch date of 3(ish) weeks from the first leak! Overall, I’m quite impressed - whether I’d get one I don’t know. I do think a big part of the value in it is where you’re coming from… thinking of it as “I’ve got Maschine and/or Komplete” and so I’m seeing a lot of missing featues is one way. Coming at it the other way and just comparing it as a standalone device to it’s peers like Akai Live and (whisper it!) the OT and it’s a pretty amazing deal you’re getting.
The Reaktor Factory Selection looks like it might just be (according to CDM) - Carbon 2, Laserbass, Newscool and SpaceDrone. Possibly the 3 ensembles from Blocks Wired but I doubt that. Not quite as impressive as the full Reaktor back catalogue but it does suggest that future additions might be possible… but then you look at the other synths, the maschine drum synths plus if you already in the Komplete/Maschine universe then you’ll have a bunch of content I presume that you could load into it from Native Access.
A thought about the USB host capability… no mention of Maschine Jam integration as yet but I’d imagine that to be on the road map.
Hmmm… I could definitely see myself getting on board with it at some point as the value proposition works for me before you factor in any future possibilities.
The irony of the standalone is that it needs a PSU to power it whereas the MKIII does not
There is a lot of irony to be found here.
I am convinced that many people want the power, the capabilities, the interoperability, and all the other trappings of an actual computer to make music. All in one tidy box. However, the moment that device, whatever that device looks like and actually is, can check email or do the kinds of things people do at their day job, it becomes the big bad word : DAW.
Oh no, run for your lives! It’s a computer!!!
You could have a Maschine MK3 hooked up to a computer that is hidden under the table, with more power and capabilities than Machine + in standalone mode.
But the #dawless squad would not consider it.
And what is the real difference here between the two?
The location of the processor, memory, and storage. (And the MK3 can run ensembles you made yourself in Reaktor.)
This is why I prefer to call this a DAW, and not #dawless.
It says they all run maschine 2 software when I check the website.
When I go on vacation, i do not take a laptop with me - I could work, but then it won’t be a vacation.
Such a box has it’s charm.
Charm for 2-4 weeks out of the year. But what about the rest of the time?
Why can’t you use it the rest of the year?
and that’s why it’s all about the workflow and not particular features
Indeed, and I see no difference in the MK3 vs + workflow.
Only features. And of course the location of the processor, ram, and storage.
The need to be DAWLESS is so pedantic and fickle. They called MPC Live “DAWLESS” despite it running Windows.
I get the desire to just use hardware, but come on.
