A REAL SY CHORD MACHINE
I’m asking myself, why Elektron did this stupid predefined chords and not letting me play with 4 notes what I want?
So please unlock the SY Chord machine to a FREE CHORD MACHINE!
How hard would it be for them to just put in a “machine” that’s just totally wide open, has all the parameters combined? Like a regular synth
I mean they only have one SYN page with 8 knobs of control. And elektron don’t seem to want to bury important sound parameters deep in menus, or add more than 2 pages, with the second generally only being deeper less performative settings like envelope reset and things like that. The digitone is great for that though, just being a single synth algorithm that can be shaped in countless ways. I imagine the analog 4 is also good at that, but I have not used one.
SY BITS has only 6 instead of 8 paramters for actual synthesis. There could be a lot more possible with SRR and BR removed.
My idea would be:
SY MONO (?)
SRR, BR and BAL are replaced with:
- BAL1 = balance between noise and OSCs
- BAL2 = balance between the two OSCs
- RNG = ringmod amount
and the Setup Parameter OCT split into two, one for the Tune and one for the Detune.
this would turn Syntakt almost into 8 Bass Station IIs or 8 Monologues!
… However, with the recent update, I’d be more interested in a digitial crisp and brillant sounding cymbal engine that sounds like actual cymbals https://youtu.be/Pqs-QoMw0EM?t=140
A simple sample engine for my hats would render this machine unstoppable.
I’m glad Elektron is selling more of these things so we can make the request thread even more unhinged
yep, a sample machine and I’d get back on the syntakt train in an instant. that and some polyphony
WTF!!! Nord Drum Level Sh_t!!! 0:24! 1:14! 1:37!
Dear Elektron, put this stuff into the Syntakt!!!
Make that 12-bit at 26.04 kHz sampling rate and we have an SP 1200 killer. Add a steep 6th-order low-pass Butterworth filter emulation from the Akai 950 for either Syntakt or Digitakt and I will buy two.
This request would apply to all the boxes, perhaps:
Show the LFOs effects on all the on-screen parameters. I’d love to see the filter frequency changing as the LFO sweeps it, for instance, as if my fingers were twisting the knobs.
SY RAW fills this gap for my initial criticism for the ST analog side.
At least one DT track would make it complete.
(add sound kits and call it a keeper)
P-I and E12 were always my favorite machines on the MD. I miss it when I see videos like this. Hoping any drum focused future update taps into physical modeling and either sampled or WT sounds
That video almost made me want to get a Machine Drum. But the prices seem to be insane.
Same, at this point i’m finding it more economical to ask Elektron to carry the best features into current products. Adding a compressor, similar machines, similar reverb, and bitrate/sample crunch option to Syntakt would help a lot
PANORAMA ON EFEECTS
Unfortunately are the effects always stereo. When you like to use the 2 outs with left drums and right synth to separate the sounds on a mixer you have still reverb and delay on both.
Guess this must be an easy task.
PARAMETER LOCK and/or Midi CC support for KEYBOARD MODE parameters.
My first Elektron was the Machinedrum which I upgraded when the Analog Rytm was released. I do prefer the AR over the MD any day but occasionally I still miss those synthetic machines…
I’m really tempted to buy the Syntakt with the current promo if only they’d release the MD & MM machines for the ST… When the ST ships at 700-750 EUR, I’d happily pay another 49€ for the MD machines and another 49€ the MM machines, if that keeps the ST platform alive and profitable for Elektron…
It seems to work out fine for Akai’s MPC series as well where they release additional plugins… And Eventide did this with the H9 pedals…
It’s only fair. You’d also pay for software upgrades that add more functionality as well… And it would be more sustainable/durable, if the hardware platform would be supported longer due to paid upgrades.
The issue is that Elektron have set the standard that all their machines get updates for free. There would be a large backlash against that sort of microtransaction model, myself included. And it seems like elektron’s model is to use the updates to boost sales and interest in an older product. Elektron actually have some of the longer product life out of lots of companies, look at the Octatrack, it is over 10 years old but I still bought one 6 months ago, and it still feels modern.
But I actually think the thing holding back the MM and MD algorithms is more of a technical problem. The MM and MD use a different processor than the Digis, and from what I have heard the code was written in assembly for maximum performance. Assembly is extremely difficult to reverse engineer, being just one step away from machine code. With most or all of the original programmers of those devices gone, there is a good chance that reverse engineering those algorithms would be significantly harder for the engineers than just making new ones.
But also, even if it were easy to port, the structure and what people like out of the MM and MD would have a hard time fitting into the Syntakt structure. Just having the MM and MD sound engines as syn machines would miss a lot of what people love about those instruments. The per channel effects, neighbor channels, the filters, it gets really complicated when you start to think about how to bring the best of the MM and MD to Syntakt without drastically changing the Syntakt’s structure.
If not already mentioned, being able to filter the noise on the snr and other machines that use it would be great! Also, the ability to blend the FX track into individual tracks in Overbridge
