Vote on Overbridge!

Con - I don’t like to use a computer while I play.

Con: Have no way of using it even if I wanted to.

Hoping that Elektron will get back to fully focussing on updating and improving their hardware.

PRO :+1:
-Ability to get separate tracks onto computer from 1 standard cable and no interface
-Ability to automate gear in a completely different way which leads to different compositional approaches and achieves different results from our beloved plocks, you can do things that are impossible to perform on the standalone units and this opens up more musical possibilities
-Easier patch and kit management
-Easily ignored if you’re cyberphobic
-Attractive interface that’s faster and more intuitive for menu diving tasks such as track and modulation routing
-Completely free

CON :-1:
-Taking quite a long time to get stable across all platforms and DAWs
-Brings out the worst in entitled whingers

you people cray-cray

OB is awesome

PRO!

Ah yes, thanks. found the thread where simon of elektron explains that faster usb interferes with the analog circuits.
Tried and tested workaround is recording the 8 possible single outs via usb, deroute those channels from the main out, and simultaneously record the main/fx out via old school audio cables/interface.
I’m not really complaining.
Pro!

Pro.

The current release delays and bugs are not relevant to me because I don’t own an AF/AK or an AR. I’m voting ‘Pro’ because the Overbridge functionality opens up three connected opportunities:
[ul]
[li]for new and innovative products from Elektron in the future,[/li]
[li]for personal development and job satisfaction for Elektron’s developer staff,[/li]
[li]for Elektron to grow as a company.[/li]
[/ul]

CON…where is the au version for logic pro x?

Well, im not sure anymore.

Cool concept but im afraid its going to be very painful and time consuming to develop and maintain Overbridge for all the different DAW , OS update etc though Elektron seems to be very skillful and always surprise me

Like many off us i use Logic audio so its a no no right now though i am using Bitwig more and more and its seems to work ok with the latest beta.

If i am looking at the manual, it seems the Rytm is not finished yet (ring mod base drum, quantized note repeat anyone ?) and i would have prioritize the hardware first since i see Overbridge has a nice bonus.

Again thats just me but i guess i am more an hardware kind of guy.

PRO (mostly)

I just wish they had hired on a few extra peeps to work on OB so others could beef up and refine the Rytm. Maybe they did. Maybe an update is coming soon full of wonder and goodness. What do I know?

OB is pretty damn handy. On my system it’s stable and sync is very tight. Live, 64 bit, imac, Mavericks.

I thought sync was terrible until I… discovered the little sync switches on the VST. Doh! Ultra-tight since then, of course.

I also thought it was a royal pain to set up. But once you do it and save a Live session as a template, it’s obviously going to be fairly quick to launch a file and get to work.

Funny thing is, I love running drum machines through my Sherman filter. So… recording via USB is not that great for that. Hmmm. Plus USB connection seems very quiet to me.

While I think it is a great concept, and works fine for me on my system, I think it actually gives me a bit too much power and choice. I am veering more and more towards simplicity and limitations these days. This is just a hobby for me. I like to come home from work and just play. Not operate rocket ships. But I can see how a lot of other people would love OB and get tons of use out of it. Therefore, I am still PRO OB.

This exactly.

Used this recently for creating a track. Creative work all done on Elektrons, followed by a really quick “recording” of patterns to Ableton via OB, a bit of arrangment in Ableton, mixing, mastering, finished.

OB supports an efficient work flow in my oppinion.

Main PRO: the only DAW integration s/w for analogue hardware, and the best DAW integration to hardware in general (IMO). The way they’ve designed the two-way feedback on parameters is absolutely perfect.

Main CON: it delayed (and may continue to delay) hardware updates on the A4, AR, and possibly OT.

Con - after spending forever in beta it finally gets released only to be made obsolete and incompatible with the current OS that ships on macs.

You have now reached the final thread on Elektronauts. Close down your web browser, shut down your computer and start making music with whatever instruments you have laying around.

Funny…I received the latest newsletter and apparently, it’s been a resounding success! Well, according to ‘toot’…

I am and have been a supporter of Elektron for a number of years. I’ve given them more business than most…but I really don’t give a shit about Overbridge…Since they announced it, their development of hardware products and OS’s have been sidelined, if not shelved completely. Overbridge won’t do anything to attract new customers and by the time they get it finished other companies will have followed suit and some users will just move on…it’s inevitable.

Really? I’d like to see where you found these facts! I’m willing to bet that they’ve sold more boxes since the announcement of OB than at any other similar period of time in the past.

Pro and Con

Really like the interface. I just dont think it was well implemented for logic users)

Elektron already has a steep learning curve and unstable plugins won’t help things. I think it should have started as a stand alone application to have the visuals of the parameters, sample managment, librarian and all that under the hood stuff. This to me seems like a much more stable way of approaching this and one I would have really appreciated.

"Overall, OB reminded me why I like hardware. Hardware is all right there, straight to the point. You’re off and running. With OB, there’s just a hair enough set-up to kill my inspiration. "

Con, I don’t like being able to record audio over USB and have an intuitive software editor for my Elektrons. I wish the machines were the same but just didn’t have these additional free features.

—Haha sorry guys, sarcasm aside, I love OB. Don’t really see what is not to like, and if it isn’t up your alley, it really isn’t hurting anything. Just helping Elektron sell more units, make more money, and maybe make more machines down the road. Just my opinion though, really don’t want to criticize those who have legitimate issues with OB. If I wasn’t an Ableton user I might be a bit choked I don’t get to use it yet.
