What's next for Elektron?

As a person who just bought an Octatrack and Monomachine this very month, I’ll be supermegapissed if it’s an update to either of those.
YOU HEAR ME ELEKTRON?!

If it’s an update to the Machinedrum then that would be supermegagreat because I’m buying one of those in December.
GOIN’ FOR THE QUAD!

I have a hunch that Elektron’s next big thing will be kitchen cabinets.

IKEA + Elektron collab

filter 1 sucks,

it doesn’t really do much of anything, seems to just cut the sound in the most unpleasant way possible. the resonance kills the low end too

arrfffff! could it be!

i mean it’s possible that this is just a logistics thing or something, but too much of a coincidence IMO.

Hmm, yesterday they still had SPS-1’s but no UW, but you’re right, both are out of stock, now.
It’s going to take a long time to get to the 23rd.

There isn’t any marketing guff or dark hector movie scenes in sight which could imply that this won’t be a big deal like the A4 was. A4 with keys seems more logical and maybe the reason why we’ve been waiting so long for the poly update.

well… what we got now is an announcement that they’re gona announce something on the 23rd. I guess the marketing will ramp up after the Launch Party…

I just can’t imagine they would replace an existing machine without clearing all the stock and allowing the stores some kind of chance to get rid…

Didn’t that happen with the mk2s? Like people have said there will be some mega pissed off people having just bought MK2s.

Though I deffo need a nice new analogue drum machine.

Elektron stated quite a few times on the old forum that it’s not their philosophy to outdate there own gear with updates. The MKII thing for the MD and MnM only happened when sourcing certain parts for them became impossible, and that the new suppliers should be good for many, many years.

So I for one would really not expect an MKII OT or A4, or an MKIII MnM or MD.

yeah but, how long are they going to keep the old products around, just for sticking to some corporate “philosophy”? MDs tech is quite old.

People are yearning for microtiming, polyrhythms, higher fidelity sound etc… The thing where Elektron machines really shine is making percussion, imo. I’m sure that a new, awesome, dedicated drum machine, with all the experience and development they’ve gathered in the last 10 years, would make you easily forget that the MD is discontinued… also, it doesn’t make the MD bad, it still is powerful & quirky in a great way, but there is so much that could be improved about it and is likely impossible to do just with OS updates. If it’s a new drum machine, I’m sure it will sound & handle very different from the Machinedrum, so chances are that you’ll want to stick to your MD…

Discontinuing the MD would also complete the circle towards a classic instrument

I wonder what type of paint they will use this time.

^ I’m pretty sure they sold out.

Well, we know there’s a biggish OS update for teh A4 on the way so I assume it will be revealed at this event along with whatever New Thing they have in mind. I have some thoughts about how it should be but I’m going to sit on them for right now, and judge on what we get rather than I can imagine.

I’m going with and hoping for a new drum machine. The MD is a classic but it’s also a bit long in the tooth as void mentioned above.

Anyone else see the C-E keyboard layout in the Night of Machines picture?
Would make sense if the new machine is an A4 with keyboard. And a Poly ios update… Right?

Yeah, inverted C to E keys.

Also, seeing the top of a W, perhaps some sort of wavetabling beast in Elektron’s own particular idiom? lol. Now I’m reaching, I think… =/

I hope you’re right. I finally bought an MD just weeks ago, and I’m glad I did, but I hope I’m not looking at something new and wanting it more.

I think the layout is just M from machine! As an MDUW-MKII owner I would be very happy for a really next generation Machinedrum with enough DSP power for future development. The last OS update from the MD is allready 2 years ago… for The World’s No.1 Drum Machine

I bought a (new) MD earlier this year (and later a MnM) because of this philosophy - and because they’re still great, usable instruments. I hope they’re making better margins off them vs when they were 1st released. (they had the lowest of the recent price increases, at least) It seems like win/win.

I won’t be mad if it’s a new MD, but I’ll probably stop caring about new stuff. This speculation now is a laugh because, who knows! Once the MD gets updated, then the MnM, then OT, then a4, rinse/repeat. :sleepy:

Still, the wood background picture makes me think even more strongly of a poly string machine. It’s a similar idea as the sub-oscs in the analog4. Think about all the fake wood on the ARP Solina or Korg Polyphonic Ensemble. It’d be fun to have a poly machine with multiple tracks.

Actually, it’d even be fitting to have some really classic drum machine sounds like from Ace Tone , Korg mini pops or the CRs from Roland.
