Zoom Ms-70 CDR

Wouldn’t Wine do the trick? That way you wouldn’t need a windows image.

Where are you seeing all these patches for the cdr-70?

I read that this pedal can do a good job as a cheap replacement for the Analogue Heat. With bass amp simulation…especially for mono b/c you can use stereo compressor or ambience effect to widen the mono. Not sure if this works as i haven’t tested it yet.

Where did you read that?

Hi there,

here’s a demo of the Zoom MS-70 CDR connected to the fantastic Twisted Electrons MEGAfm. In my opinion, the MS-70 offers a lot for the price but live editing really drove me crazy. Nevertheless a great pedal for low budget dawless studios.

Nice. The MegaFM with its inherent digi grit is a perfect match for dub techno (though it’s not what I use it for myself).

Been meaning to get an MS-70 for my portable suitcase setup. Bang for the buck. I’ll just have to cope with the interface.

I’ve just observed that some effects do nothing if there are two cables connected to the input. I was expecting that mono effects would simply pick the left input, or merge the two channels before applying the effect, but there is a clear difference between having something connected to the right input or not.

Is this the expected behavior?

I don’t think that’s normal.
There are mono and stereo effects (some of which are real stereo, others summed mono), but none should lead to zero output.

There’s some good info here: https://www.reddit.com/r/guitarpedals/comments/71grc6/list_of_zoom_mscdr70_stereo_and_mono_effects/

Left is indeed the Mono, but make sure you are plugging the synth in on the right-hand side (counterintuitive for me!)

Well, I don’t know. I ended putting it as a send-effect in my mixer (it has only one, mono in, stereo out), so there aren’t any problems now.

On the other hand, have anyone flashed a custom firmware to include some drives? What have you gotten rid of in order to free some space?

Mine is a bit noisy when connected to my laptop. No problem with my desktop (no problem I can hear and can disturb me to tweak patches with Tonelib, but I won’t power it by a computer to record).
Most of the time, I power it with an external powerbank. I use a very cheap one that holds (and can even charge) 18650 batteries. As I use to vape, I have some used 18650 that don’t have enough life for vaping, but still work great for that use and can stand a whole day rehearsal.

Take care using ToneLib : it has a bug that can make you replace a preset by another instead of switching their slots. I’ve lost an important preset with it.

Has anyone got a lofi patch that is similar to Fairfield Circuitry Shallow Water? I find my patches are very over the top and i want something a bit more subtler.

Maybe here: https://www.reddit.com/r/zoommultistomp/comments/88z0j5/mercury7_cathedra_and_shallow_water_patches/

I haven’t tried it, though.

Cheers. Good find.

Here’s a gorgeous demo of some other patches in that sub-reddit:

I have a MS-70CDR with the custom firmware that allows me to add effects from other pedals like the MS50B (firmware 1.1.0).

Is there any way to edit these additional patches from a computer?

As far as I can tell Tonelib used to only allow editing of effects on the official firmware, has this changed or are there any other alternatives that work, such as Zoomlib?
