I have achieved 303 style sounds via modular - but not having to patch it up each time and having a 303 voice ready to be sequenced at all times via cv/gate is a dream for me
Thanks again for your suggestion, I thought this too re: using onboard sequencer just for accents (extra env I’ll handle via midi so not worried about that). However apparently this won’t work, according to a user elsewhere online:
‘You can’t because a note has to pressed in to the sequencer so you can apply accents …there is a work around in eurorack by sending audio signal from avalon to vca then separately trigger vca with an alternative cv source…’
Someone else has suggested sequencing via cv/gate and using MIDI for the accents which could be a solution also.
I attempted to contact Brian via email twice and left a voicemail to request changes to my order. After getting no responses, I lost my patience and contacted PayPal to cancel the order. I’ll probably regret it at some point, but I’d rather just spend the $ on a Sequential Take 5 right now.
Oh darn, that was mentioned as the better of the options in the past, but I don’t see it either.
You could try emailing him directly but as per @Prints post, you may be stuck. Beyond that, maybe you could try to arrange a trade for someone in a similar boat?
I wish I’d been following this thread back in July. I had been on the hunt for one of these used for a while but never found one at the right time. Missed a few good deals as well
Had ruled out any chance of more being made because it had just been so long. Was pretty surprised to see that more are being made, but I’m happy about it!
If you’re serious about it, then I’d contact Brian via email (support@abstraktinstruments.com) and ask to be put on a waiting list. I’ve already read posts of at least six people cancelling their pre-orders between here, Facebook and other forums and that’s just the ones that post about it. There will undoubtedly be more especially as time goes on, the inevitable production delays occur and people get tired of waiting or life happens and they need the money back. He probably won’t answer any time soon or maybe at all, but at least that’s the best you can do right now is try to get in early.
I recall with the prior pre-order and batch that he placed several units on Reverb.com which were likely cancellations from that process. You can create an item watch notification to see what pops up.
It responds really well to fx I think, more so than a regular 303 because fx can really accentuate the extra modulations you can perform on the Avalon.
It also sounds boss shoved through a RAT
I assumed nothing had been said, but don’t have access to things like the Avalon Facebook group etc so thought maybe some small info could have come out.
Abstrakt is not a large operation so I would not expect to hear anything back until at least the month of expected ship. There is no more information on the unofficial facebook group than here
i’ll try to share here if that changes but there won’t be any information there you wouldn’t already receive via email or Abstrakt’s public channels.
The last batch is supposed to start shipping in March 2022. I’ll be really happy if that happens, but I think it’s completely unrealistic. We haven’t even gotten a single email update (at least I haven’t) other than the original order confirmation. I could be wrong, but I recall seeing that every other batch was months late to ship with some people waiting almost a year after the fact and that was years before the pandemic. I’d be completely shocked if any shipped before June/July next year earliest and really I’m expecting much later than that if at all. I’ll be happy if it ships in 2022 period.
While the pricing of everything had somewhat gone up when these pre-orders were placed things have changed pretty dramatically since then. Again, I’d love to be wrong, but I think present state of things in the world will take a big impact here. Brian is the epitome of a one man operation and while I think he has the best of intentions things will be greatly delayed both in and out of his control.
I’m expecting the worst and will be pleasantly surprised if anything better happens.
