Avalon Bassline...worth it?/ Opinion

Is it the last batch ever ? Will they stop production ?

Yes, Brian said so.

Too bad :frowning:

I canā€™t remember the specifics, but I believe that Brian said the components he uses are either no longer in production or too difficult to get. I wish I could find it, but I swear there was this video where he was talking about production issues and specifically about the place where he gets the cases made. I can no longer find it, so either I was imagining it, he pulled it down or it was on some other social platform other than YouTube. This was before the pandemic and he was talking about component supply issues and prices being an issue back then as the reason why this would be the last run.

My guess (and itā€™s completely just that) is that he had enough of the main electronic components already to do another run and just needed things like circuit boards and cases to be made for full assembly.

Again, I could be completely full of it and wrong, but either way heā€™s stated this was the last run.

EDIT:

Good grief I wasnā€™t crazy. Itā€™s just an unlisted video.

I thought it was prior to the pandemic, but the video is from 2020 and heā€™s talking about the last (prior) run, but also mentions ā€˜another run of 200 units next yearā€™ (this current last batch) as ā€˜probably being itā€™ (meaning last production run). IIRC heā€™s later said more definitively this was the last batch due to component issues.

Hey guys&galls,

Ive been trying to cancel my preorder for a few months now and sadly contacted PayPal to late. They canā€™t help me.

Can anyone help me get in contact with Brian? This money is kind of a big deal to me.

cheers

Why donā€™t you sell it?
Iā€™m sure you can find someone whoā€™ll be willing to buy it even if he doesnā€™t know when itā€™s gonna show up.

Edit : Iā€™m saying that because Iā€™m sure itā€™s an easier solution, unfortunatly.

You probably know this info, but just trying to be helpful. Iā€™d try calling if you havenā€™t.

Regrettably, heā€™s abysmal about following up on emails by all accounts and itā€™s just a matter of luck if he replies. If it were me, Iā€™d call around 11AM PST or sometime early afternoon. Iā€™m pretty sure youā€™ll have to leave messages, but hopefully he calls you back.

Thanks! somehow that phone number seems different than the on on the PayPal billing.

Good call but I feel uncomfortable selling something that I donā€™t have in my hands yet.

The Avalon is cool, but it is definitely not cool enough to deal with this BS imo. I cancelled my preorder long ago because I wanted to change something, but couldnā€™t get a response despite multiple emails and phone calls. I had to open a dispute with PayPal.

Nobody should be treated with such little regard after spending all that money imo.

I genuinely forget I preordered one sometimes. I owned one before and sold it, and wanted one again so I preordered, knowing it might be a year or more till I actually get it.

Totally get peopleā€™s frustration. I think I set my expectations low enough that unless they simply never materialise, Iā€™ll be happy whenever itā€™s delivered.

Iā€™d be surprised if I get it before summer.

Very much how I feel about it. I pretty much just forget that I ordered one, but it doesnā€™t hurt that I have one already. I totally get peoples frustration with Brian and the company though and the complaints are completely legitimate. I understand why many donā€™t want the hassle or to support him. In a way, itā€™s similar to JoMox ā€“ brilliant, but hard to deal with personalities and business practices.

Itā€™s a bit of a gamble and unknown to buy into. Iā€™m confident everyone will get their preorders, but when is entirely questionable. If it happens this year, Iā€™m thinking Q4, but I could see it even being next year.

Iā€™m frustrated I didnā€™t preordered one  Now someone has to clone that clone (well, I know itā€™s not a clone). Maybe should I ask Uli :smiling_imp:

I would have a harder time being patient with JoMox since theyā€™re a more established and widely distributing business. I also expect more from German businesses but thatā€™s my bias at play

I tore my hair out over consistently failing products from Cyclone Analogic and zero responses from their barely monitored email addresses but at least Perfect Circuit was able to replace then refund after two broken TT-606 in a row.

I expect a ā€œMutant Murderā€ variant at some point, yeah.

The VS-1 synth is nowhere to be seen too, after 2 years in the kickstarter development.

As much as I liked aspects of my JoMoX gear I sold it all after the ordeal of dealing with JĆ¼rgen through the Sunsyn 2.0 upgrade process. I couldnā€™t see long term ownership of gear depending on the whims of an individual that really seemed as though they were begrudgingly doing you a favor. Maybe it was a cultural difference that I just wasnā€™t prepared for. I was just happy to finally get my gear back and knew Iā€™d never put myself through that again by choice.

Yeah I am kind of on the fence about keeping mine when it comes inā€¦ I am very much looking forward to giving it a go though.

I think a lot of people bought them on this last run to flip. Going rate on the 2nd hand market is $2K and they sell without much trouble. Since itā€™s known this was the last production run Iā€™m sure theyā€™ll only go up, but who knows by how much. Itā€™s a modern classic for sure with a lot of mystic around it since theyā€™ve always been elusive and hard to get (increasing the price).

I passed the PayPal dispute time sadly:(

I pre-ordered one as well. I hope it comes.
