If you were starting from scratch what would be your first 3 pieces of gear

Similar for me:
MC-707 (which I have)
Syntakt (have Model Samples)
Sequential Rev-2 or Take5 or (the other side) a Waldorf

I currently have two digis (DN and ST) and I donā€™t yet see the point of a mixer. I can route the audio from one to the other and use the internal mixer.

What new options would a hardware mixer open up?

Oh wait, can it be ANY three things?

Analogue Solutions Colossus
Waldorf Quantum
that new Kyma system

I reckon thatā€™d keep me busy for quite a while

Depends on the mixer

Not wanting to derail but whatā€™s your thoughts? I keep looking at the whole lineup, thinking how easy it would be to record decent acoustic and electric without a studio environment.

Actually on further consideration:

Analogue Solutions Colossus
a second Analogue Solutions Colossus
huge loft space in an old industrial district with big windows and perfect acoustics

Either:

MPC One (or maybe octatrack)
Syntakt
MicroMonsta 2

Or low cost setup Iā€™d be tempted by:

Circuit Tracks
Circuit Rhythm
MicroMonsta 2

Right now, with the idea that it will force me to explore and develop:

  1. Octatrack mk2
  2. Nord Wave 2 (unsure, maybe A1)
  3. Nord drum 3p

I will probably change my mind three times today again

Iridium- ARP 2600m- Digitone

it makes a very nice beefy mono indeed. The 5 voices have so much strength, that poly sounds are almost too big for some situations (at least in my mixes). People always want more voices, 5 voices are more than enough for me if they sound as big as that

Yup, Iā€™ve been using a Rhodes type sound in the track Iā€™m working on now and itā€™s just so thick but in a good way. Really fills out the mix.

Sorry that post meant to say ā€œid getā€ā€¦

I have however played the strat and jazz master version in a store, US and mex versions. They are tempting and sound really good, preferred the jazz master as has more electric tones but I just could not get to the point to pay that much for them. But as an all rounder Swiss Army knife guitar think it would be really good, just needs to be cheaperā€¦

Milkshakes, smoothies, frozen margaritaā€¦

Headroom (electroacoustical, as well as for later gear additions).
Perhaps a nice EQ.
Additional send / routing options. (ties into later gear, FX)

Part of my point being that two of these machines are a lot to cope for a beginner.

Macbook, Fender thinline tele, Novation Peak or similar

Synth or sampler?

-MacBook with Ableton Live.
-Tascam Model 12.
-Analog Keys or Roland JDXA (the greatest sleeper synth of the last 20 years IMO).

I donā€™t own an AK, i have the A4mk2, but working on the assumption it sounds the same and would give me keys to play.

Donā€™t matter with hacktribe as they end up the same :+1:

Synth gets the sampling, sampler gets the synth stuff, plus all the other new bits each.

If buying one probably best get synth version as hacktribe is easier to install due to people posting the compiled OS image ready to use, then you donā€™t have to use python.
