MPC Thread : MPC Live - MPC X - MPC One (Part 2)

Is there a way to make a combo 1 knob DJ style LP/HP filter effect? I see there is one in the Air filter but as far as I can tell it doesn’t have a mid point that leaves the audio unaffected.

No drinks near the gear… :facepunch::facepunch::rage:

That makes me hate it already. :joy:

me too man. I wish akai would stop trying to be ‘cool’. I wouldn’t even mind if they did a good job of it but their marketing just make it a corporate caricature. I am a huge hip hop head but their marketing is a stones throw away from those early 2000s glitter gifs

Let’s not speculate too wildly, I don’t see MPC anywhere, the first letter is covered by the can, it could be a cheap chinese knock-off, PC Key 61 or APC 61, or (any letter apart from M) key 61, it doesn’t mean it’s an MPC!

Imho if it’s got keys it’s not an mpc…

Well, as other mentioned the reverbs (AIR+Akai) are not the best, also the delay (sounds far too static to my ears), the AIR compressor is good but not amazing, the EQ is good but not amazing (would rather see an EQ with splines like the FAB filter EQ) …

distortion, drive, tubeFX and the diode-distortion sounds quite decent

although the FX on my old Elektrons (MK1) are somewhat reduced, they sound better to my ears, especially the delay (very dynamic!)

overall the FX are good for an early stage production, but for the details i would use external FX or vst-FX …

however, depending on the source-material and carefully tweaked parameters, it could sound sometimes quite good, almost finished

i think, Akais decision to implement as much as possible into one box was not a bad intention. I mean, you can really do a full production with this thing. Just sampling alone is amazing on that gear!!

also the idea to connect it with their stripped-down DAW-incarnation using external vst’s is great for submixes (i wish Elektron would have had this in mind when they created overbridge!!!)

Too many “kits” in the MPC are fucking half shit samples/synth/vox. Wish there was more kits that were just drum/perc samples.

Air Kill EQ is very interesting, like SP404’s Isolator fx.

The onboard kits are mainly good for a laugh if you’re at a loose end. Just go straight for anything purple and you’re guaranteed a good time. It’s a real bind that deleting them seems to be risky, but I suppose it all adds to the allure and mystique of the classic units that they’re not clogged up with a hundred Ibiza and Southern 808 kits.

I purchased the MPC-samples acoustic kits as a bundle. They are fantastic to my ears!

sure…but would be nice to have some to go to to kick something off…instead of having to cobble together a kit. and my samples are trash…so some kits with well records drums/percs only would be nice.

if there is an mpc keys, are any of you interested in it, just curious?

I think if it helps with continued development that’s great but I think a Force Mini or flat sleek and portable mpc one would be a better money grab for Akai, and more funds for development as well

since my first sampler back in the day was an Emax II, definitely interested to see what MPC Keys would actually be. but given what I expect AKAI to charge for 61 keys, i would be surprised if i felt i needed to pay the extra versus an MPC One that I can trigger via Pyramid and play over MIDI from my synth controller. it would be great to have a sampling keyboard again but i suspect the price is going to be twice an MPC One (at minimum)

I wonder if they called it 61 specifically because they’re gonna release an 88

Well, I think it’s good that it’s the other way around for a change, usually it’s desktop/module versions that are neglected by companies so we’re forced into having another keybed. It’s good that it’s being offered to those who want it, as you say it will help continued development which benefits all of us.

Personally I avoid space hungry keybeds as much as possible, most of the time the Keystep 37 is perfect for me, a 4 octave/5 octave keystep would be a dream come true.
