I thought something similar… I’d personally go for an MPC Keys 37 way faster than I would a 61, or even a 49 which is the sweet spot for my use (sweet spot for playing use but I prefer the form factor of a 39).
I’d personally prefer a smaller rather than a bigger “groovebox”, so in this case I wouldn’t be interested. If there was an MPC that was built more like an MPK Mini mk3 keyboard on the underside of something like the MPC One, with a built-in battery, I’d be interested.
I like the air kill eq to apply a bit of a loudness curve to my mix: mid slightly reduced an bass and trble slighly boosted
There are some very good one-shot sounds in there, in fairness, but they’re all bundled up in ‘showcase’ kits that you have to pick apart to use, but are still stuck with. The drum synths have helped with this, giving you a good starting point for putting an electronic kit together without sampling. I suppose Akai have muddied the waters here by pushing the MPC in a groove box direction. I agree that a wider selection of regular drum kits would be a solid addition.
It is of course easy to resample some nice sounds you’ve put together with drum synth, and make a drum program out of those…
Yeah, that’s the real advantage of the drum synths and also the regular synths, they’re all solid built-in sampling sources. Sculpt your starting point and then bring it into the sampler. We just need a few more features in the sampler to match the software options (better LFO support, for sure).
I heard from a guy at a guitar center that they already have them in stock waiting to sell and that they are going to be priced at $1899. But it could be all rumor.
Pretty safe to say (in this specific picture) the branding is an AKAI “MPC” keyboard and at the bare minimum I don’t think Scott Storch wants to open himself up to any potential lawsuits.
Though I do think I am having a burger , fries and an ice cold Coke™ For lunch today .
EDIT: APC Keys … maybe but i doubt it
Damn $1899!! if that ends up being true then they are going to either loose their shirts or sell a lot of them… a win win for my Force Mini fantasy because either they will need to redeem themselves or be so drunk with the success of the product that they will be happy to drop a portable Force
Yea that’s a steal. I believe the MPC X is 2199 US right now. So 1899 is a good price
what is the deal with the black /red/purple color schemes etc…
gimme that 2000 beige
Honda is bringing back the Intégra . Akai should bring back the beige
Tbh I’m a bit surpised Akai didn’t announce the MPC Keys at NAMM this weekend… If they want to start selling it at the 23. (same date as the new update) they could have use the time to create some clout
maybe it’s not release ready and there’s a demo unit hence the 2.11 to hold peoples interest
Legit says MPC Keys 61
I predict other than the attached keyboard, the MPC DNA and functionality will be the same as the X, One, and Live - so unless you’re dying for some keys…
Daydream prediction: MPC Keys with more Force DNA than the other boxes
MPC-Samples stuff is so good.
Anyone know if there is a way to reorder programs etc in the mixer window?
After a messy creative process I always end up with a broken looking track page, with gaps and tracks split across multiple pages.
The same with sequences, I hoard them but can’t find a simple way to clean them and reorder.
There’s is no simple way, all you can do is the ol’ copy and paste routine… probably not what you want to hear but yeah project management is something you need to get to grips with pretty fast if your going to have a good time with the mpc line, I used to always start with a template set with all the usual elements pre grouped to avoid exactly what you’re faced with in your screen shot…
Yes, it’s not straightforward like you’d imagine it should be.
I vaguely remember rearranging programs myself a while back, and finding that this was one of the advantages of using MPC Software with my MPC in Controller Mode.
I’ve got into the habit of standardising my routing into the Submixes, this covers a lot of the performance mixing duties.
Then, the other thing that might be a quick help/fix, renaming the Programs themselves to something you can recognise quickly when you switch to the Mix window (rather than being presented with Program 1, Program 2, etc).
Hopefully they’ll bring over the screen faders from the Force at some point too… it makes using the touchscreen seem like a big positive when you get a bank of faders.
Got it, thanks.
Yeah true, I’m totally fine with some of that sweet file management but it would be nice if it was somewhat workable while sketching.
I know there are some purge commands etc could be worth checking out.
But something that I just don’t get is why there are completely empty boxes, looks buggy and wastes valuable pad/screen mixer space
Might be dealt with in that update if one can wish
