MPC Thread : MPC Live - MPC X - MPC One (Part 2)

Believe it’s one or the other, not a combination of I/O

No, you have to choose between internal or external interface. It is one setting affecting both in- and outputs.

And if I would hook the MPC to my Computer (DAW) via USB, how many Ins and Outs would I get there?

Is it just me or has akai given everyone and their mum this update early to push on YouTube? I’m seeing tons of new videos every single day as if this is the coming of 3.0. It’s a decent update and all but it’s a bit…excessive? I mean considering they haven’t even announced the other plugins yet. they’re all gonna have to do it again in like 2 weeks

If you connect your MPC to any class compliant external audio device (and select it as the interface) you should be able to access whatever I/O that device provides over USB, but you’ll lose the MPC’s physical inputs and outputs. Depending on the device you may need to set the 32 channel option in the MPC’s device settings page in order to see everything, and you may also find yourself restricted to two channels regardless, because you can only use the class compliant route and some devices require drivers to access all features - although my Zoom R16 claims to require drivers, but still provides 8 channels of input when connected to the One and Force, so it’s all a bit of a shot in the dark at times (especailly when you factor in that the MPC requires 44.1kHz).

I guess they changed their update marketing strategy to a more “modern”, social media-based approach. IMO most of us were surprised to see that sneak peek-video for 2.11 at Superbooth, because it was such an unsual move from Akai.
Personally I’m quite happy about their new approach, because now you more communication about new updates and it’s not like they suddenly drop a whole new update without letting you know anything beforehand.

That’s what I understand and it is really cool. What I meant, was that when I hook it up to Logic Pro, how many Ins and Outs does the MPC One have in there? Because if I would hook it up to my Audio Interface, I can’t use that Audio Interface on my Mac anymore. I am sure that it would be possible to have different I/O-routings through software.

I haven’t had much luck with connecting the MPC as a device in itself, and I stopped trying early on. I’m not sure it actually does this in the way you envision - I think you can connect it in controller mode and access the onboard physical I/O (using it as a soundcard, basically), but it sounds like you might be looking for some Overbridge-style setup and I don’t think thats possible - but as I say, I’ve kept it away from the computer pretty much since day one, so maybe someone will step in and correct this. My impression is that unless you’re using the MPC desktop software, your options are limited.

its better than no information I suppose. my feed is literally full of people going over like the same 2 small features

think ive run into a bug if someone can check this, ive got a sequence running and a track solo’d, as soon as I change sequence to line up the next one it automatically turns solo off. the solo button stays lit though. not sure if theres a setting im missing or something but that seems weird

Just received my MPC X. I’ve had 2 Live 2’s and 2 MPC Ones and sold them all as I just go back and forth on what I want to use…but the X, OMG, those Qlink knobs with all the available features without having to use the screen…so much nicer. Just turning on and off the metronome, the timing, so many ways the big machine makes it easier and quicker to use. I love the X.

It’s a beast!
Perhaps you’ve already tried it, but It took me a good year to realize you can use the F-key + button to perform touch screen actions without having to touch the screen. Very nice

*edit: i.e navigating synths using only physical buttons, and then q-links for tweaking.
Or not having to use the touch screen for ”Do it” actions

If the MPC’s landed the Macros from the Force, I could see myself going from a Force to an X+Launchpad.

I much prefer MPC song mode to arranger.

X or Force-that is the Question.Ive got the X and now Push2 but im looking at Force.Would sell the X if I preferred the Force.Might sell it anyway as ive now got Ableton suite and Push 2………what a life

I’m in the same situation as you. Had an original Live, One, Force, then a Live II. Just something about them never quite hitting the spot. On Monday i got an X, knowing this was to be my last attempt with the current Mpc/Force range & it feels like a different machine to me. Literally moments before i read your post i was just looking at and smiling. It feels luxurious in comparison to the other models. It’s imposing & i feel like i’m sat in front of a powerhouse & that’s inspiring & exciting.

Yes, exactly. I thought no way would it be that much different and last night after updating and trying it out, it was just so much nicer and “professional” and I had a lot more enjoyable time just making a quick beat on it than all those other machines. Now, I’m excited to get home this weekend and really play around with it.

Yeah, it’s just a real shame that every YouTube is basically 100% happy with the updates out of fear of being left out next time Akai is looking for cheap publicity. Someone at Akai is clearly watching every single review/video so it would have been so nice if someone would be just a little critical about the fact that they left out things like customizable button shortcuts rather than raving about a swipe and tap shortcut.

The Force is pretty luxurious i would have thought.Same kinda quality no?

Yes I much preferred the Force over the Live/One.

I was really torn trying to decide between another Force or the X but I just had to scratch that itch with the X. I’m not opposed to getting another Force, as it’s different enough to switch up when the mood take you.

One thing I loved on the Force, when clip launching, was that launching different clips would pause the other clips, but when re-triggering the previous clips they begin from where the were paused/switch if you set it up this this way

If that all makes sense.

I’ve been in possession of Ableton/Push 2, the Force and the MPC for about a year now.

By far the least used has been the Force for me. It sits right in between the other two, so each time I go to work, depending on what I want to do, I’ll gravitate to Ableton or the MPC.

I’ve said it often now, I should really sell the Force… but something always stops me from doing so.
