Ouchā€¦

So, OPX-4, definitely the crown jewel of the MPC synths. Absolute beast of a synth and actually easy to program on the standalone unit, with little use of the touchscreen (itā€™s needed as a button in a few pages). The review below might not be 100% correct, just 98% correct but I spent quite some time with it and made a few patches as well as played around with the preset. Iā€™m not an FM guru in any way form or shape. This is a super deep synth so forgive me if Iā€™m not super accurate.
Definitely not a romplerā€¦
The structure is closer to FM8 than the Digitone in such that you do not have algorithms but you have a FM matrix.

4 Oscillators, each one is hard wired to an amp envelope + 1 sample oscillator (not user samples).
For each operator you have Ratio and offset, level and some oscillators modifiers.
2 multimode filters, filter 1 assigned to submix bus 1, filter 2 to submix bus 2 (bus 3 has no filter, I personally use it as a clean sine sub layer).
2 LFOs, quite flexible, can be synced or free running, phase and delayā€¦
6 multistage envelopes.
The sample layer is quite nice to add some extra to your sound, the samples can be looped, tuned and assigned to the submix.
Speaking of which, each submix has an fx slot and there are 2 global effects.

Then you get to the the modulation matrix and your brain goes boom, 8 pages of modulations for a total of 32 assignable modulation slot, each one with a ton of destinations.

And 8 macrosā€¦

What did I manage to do with all this power?

A basic electric piano and quite a few aggressive sub basses, as that is what I like about FMā€¦

Does this thing have some kind of DRM?
iLock? How would that work in standalone?

sounds good at least it is a proper synth

doesnt that get to be a bit of a chore? good thing they added macros. I wonder why akai has such a beef with user samples on a sampler. hype would be better with user samples and so would this. not that its short for power by the sounds of it

lol @aortan im sure lots of people are waiting to find out

Is everyone here ready for the onslaught of Yotube synthfluencer videos telling us how amazing these synths are and how much you need them?

Guess what, you donā€™t. Remember that. Screw GAS and FOMO.

No one here ā€˜needsā€™ more optionsā€¦ the Jun 22nd MPC has everything you need.

:v:

legit. I was dissapointed but not surprised. dont know why i even feel pissed as if my X isnt permanently attached to a computer with kontakt and FM8. I think it just would have been cool inside the MPC but its no big deal really

Have you had access to Fabric XL?

Curious how it is in the Pads department.

Not worse than programming a Blofeld. Most of them are pre assigned so not so bad.

So if you buy they keyboard, and make something with fabric for instanceā€¦ will it just not load those tracks on your x for example? Or once you own the fabric you can put it on all your mpcā€™s?

Iā€™m sure AKAI gave all these influencerz free plugin licenses with a nice NDA attached stating they are not allowed to disparage these pluginsā€¦ and all the videos will pop up on youtube at the exact same timeā€¦ well business as usual, influencerz are happy with freebiesā€¦

If you have ever seen what Akai wants for their expansion packs them these prices start to make senseā€¦lol.

I think some ex-native instruments employees must be working for akai now

Ā£30 an operator? Iā€™m not convinced. I might be less unconvinced if one purchase covered the MPC and Force, and I knew it was transferrable to any future devices I might buy that use the same system, and also having to install the desktop software to manage it would likely be a dealbreaker. Basically Ā£120 on a plugin for a piece of hardware is a bridge I donā€™t really want to be crossing.

I suppose it adds some context to the price of the One, which would become the antitrust deal of a lifetime if all this was thrown in.

Havenā€™t tested myself yet, but it looks like you can install directly to the standalone, and that itā€™s tied to your inmusic account.

ā€If you own a Standalone MPC, you can demo these instruments navigating on your MPC to preferences ā€œauthorize pluginsā€, logging into your inMusic account and hitting start demo.ā€

out of the new series I bought an mpc live, live 2, and mpc one all brand new, not used, and they want 500 bucks for that?

Iā€™ll give them 500 bucks to remove the plugins and libraries from the mpcs I have or for a Force Mini

Haha yes, Iā€™m refreshing YT every 10 minutes and just wait for the sudden spam of MPC Keys 61 videos from synthfluencers on my start feed.

yeah i dont think ill be giving akai money directly again tbh. ill just buy used from now on. im willing to bet that these plugins end up adding about 100 to your resale value and thats assuming someone doesnt crack it

@Artsutanav bit about fabric here, hes on MPC forums
