MPC Thread : MPC Live - MPC X - MPC One (Part 2)

Well, the udpate is ~200mb, can’t recall if thats usual but it sounds about right for the OS, I’d say. From one of the decriptions above it sounds like you have to install and activate the paid plugins separately, and since the Fabric collection alone shows up as 3gb I doubt they’d auto-install it on the offchance. It’s not a games console yet…

Auto install?

Buddy you have to activate that shit! You"ll be fine.

I’ve never updated my MPC before. Are the first releases usually stable or does a bug patch come out soon after? Also, will it mess up my project files if I update?

Also $500 for like 5 instruments is ridiculous

Akai learning from Native Instruments.

Well we are always saying how the MPC needs better synths and effects. Maybe they will be better if we have to pay for them? I mean there is already a crap ton of free stuff that comes with the mpc. Or is this just the fanboy in me talking? I think I will probably buy the FM one as I don’t have a dedicated fm synth in the studio.

People really think once you give anything for free, everything should be free.

I disagree with the prices, but no chance in hell anyone is giving that many plugins for standalone for free.

OP-4 is really really good, btw.

Yeah I’m not super interested in the rompler stuff, I think a good old Keygroup instrument would do the job for my purposes.

But the FM synth looks interesting.

Will the FM synth be available for purchase outside of the $500 bundle?

It is https://www.thempcstore.com/mpc-plugin-instruments/opx-4.html?fs=e&s=cl

AFAIC, only the big bundle or Fabric is on sale?

It doesn’t look like the OPx4 synth is on sale atm

Yep, you get a discount if you buy all of them or the Fabric Bundle.

Else you can get the OP-4.

Got it. I’m not really in a rush so might just wait and pray for an OP4 sale.
Something tells me Akai will keep pushing new instruments going forward… :relaxed:

Can’t blame them.

Native Instruments releases one new instrument every week at this rate.

TBF, they are mostly good and do sell.

Yeah I mean I can kind of understand that there is a premium to the price. These instruments are mainly designed to run great on MPCs, and isn’t likely to sell well to people who don’t use MPCs.

Is it really fair to compare the price with standard VSTs?

You don’t need to buy all of them just for the sake of it.

I gotta chime in with I don’t get the collector culture everywhere.

Like do you need them? No.
But if you do, buy what you need. It fits a purpose very well and is made only for that

Everyone needs every single thing released these days.
I first saw this in gaming culture (collecting all gun skins, etc).

And whats with people think development time is free for new features?

Bug fixes i get.

Do you think it’s better sounding (louder, hits harder) than the Hype synth?

I actually might take the plunge on the Op4

Agree…I would like to remove all the kits from MPC. 90% are junk [for what I like to do]

Well, its a different beast.
Its a FM synth which I have pretty much none of.

And its a proper software (as in not just sampled but tonnes and tonnes of settings and algorithms).

I do think I already love it more than the Hype synth, Fabric XL is definitely better than that.

I"ll say this much, even at $150 I am thinking of buying OPx-4.
I never do that for plugins/expansions let alone a very specialized one.

See what I wrote about it above, 32 modulation slots, fully editable interface, I never touched the software version because bleurgh software but I actually enjoyed programming the opx4

Tonight I might record a small video of my monster drum kit, it currently triggers 2 drum synths, 2 instances of OPx4 (which conveniently has one shot envelopes) and a few channels on the Syntakt.
