For me, the MPC is so close to being the most perfect machine. So close…
Akai, for me only please give me odd numbered steps with infinite looping and a way to change sequences every 16 steps versus having to wait for the sequence to play out or the key combo of NEXT BAR in the NEXT SEQ page…
Looking forward to the probability and demoing the Op4
I got mine back from repairs yesterday and in the meantime I was using the Force. Having the Mpc back made me realize I can sell the Force (and maybe the Microfreak too…)
Well I tried to do an online update to mpc 2.11 but it told me my mpc is already up to date. I guess I am going to have to use my computer to do this, so now I’m going to have to wait until I get back home… Come on Akai!
Don’t worry, the Akai site has been basically down for the last four hours. Too much traffic. I’ve been trying to get to download the update, but no luck. I’ll try again tomorrow when the americans are sleeping and it’s morning time here.
It’s personal taste, I have no use for strings or pianos, and for as nice as the Fabric is, the OPx4 is much deeper and meanier.
Fabric is good but it is basically a rompler, with 2 parts. Each having its oscillator type, filter and basic modulation. I somehow prefer Hype to Fabric but I think it’s a matter of taste.
Has anyone mentioned how this works one the One? I imagine the days of relying on everyone having Ethernet cables lying around are behind us (did the One come with a cable? I can’t remember). Is there a licence file you can transfer over? Is it limited to a period of time? Etc etc.
Answered my own question, I think - on the one, as someone said above, you have a new Activate Plugins option in Prefs, and that tells you to connect to a network to log in. Other than that, and the prompt at boot-up (which you can set to Do Not Show Again), there’s no sign off the new optional content, which is great (for example, they don’t show up in the new sound browser interface). All the new stock plugins (like Flavor) are installed by the update, and then it just behaves as normal. It’s unobtrusive, which is the key.
Uh oh - if you record a chord and add probability to the chord, the probability is per the note, not the whole chord. This results in a random single note playing every once in a while.
I can see some creative uses for this, but it’s also annoying.
Yeah we need the playback cycles now so we can have our notes play at specific times in the sequence. Probability is fine, but Cycle playback is where the power is
what do we think the odds are that the Fabric Bundle eventually gets unbundled? unless there’s a compelling reason to need both Fabric and Fabric XL at the same time, i know i can live without the extra pianos so would probably be interested in just the basic Fabric on its own
