MPC Thread : MPC Live - MPC X - MPC One (Part 2)

Mine was 2.11.1

Iā€™m not able to install the trial version of the new plugins. From my MPC One, connected to Ethernet i can login but i have a message ā€œCould not activate the license from the serverā€ when I click on ā€œStart Trialā€

The new sounds browser has some serious limitationsā€¦
no preview for anything all these instruments are getting loaded up in the backgroundā€¦
Only plugin favourites no drum or key group favourites :unamused:
Itā€™s better but not good imo

Yeah I use the old way for my expansions.

Do the demo, it eliminates the error

The synths sound really nice. I donā€™t se myself using them, Iā€™m set in that respect. But for plugs, all in one, they sound GOOD!

You gotta login on your computer or phone or whatever, itā€™ll give you a code to enter when you try to login on yer box.

I gotta give you props.

You aint a fan of the update but you did respect how good they sound.

Same boat here!

I think you misinterpreted what I was and wasnā€™t a fan of.

I think the update is awesome. The firmware is great. The plug-ins sound great. [I love my MPC]

What I am not a fan of is AKAI half assed website. Lack of proper directions. And how the firmware is not tailored to each box. All for all makes sense for them as itā€™s MUCH easier to get the update out.
But they donā€™t take the user into consideration. Again, CV options in the menu for those that have no CVā€¦thatā€™s an ow-ey for me.

But, the update is great! And the synths sound great.

ah!

website bad, update good?

yeah I can agree with that.

Thing is I build sites/apps so I have seen far far worse lol

You eventually gonna pick up any of the new paid plugins?

Is the MPC software running natively with M1 Macs in Monterey yet? Or well enough with Rosetta? Got a 2021 MBP and wondering whether itā€™s worth installing the software yet.

Looking forward to updating my Live II very soon. Any noteworthy bugs yet? Good to hear the looper export bug seems to be fixed.

Iā€™ve reverted to 2.10 since the new update broke keygroups for me. If you play sounds in mono mode on keygroups (and drum programs apparently, although personally didnā€™t test, that was someone else)ā€¦ they now create a clipping/popping sound. The clipping is random and happens after the transient of the next triggered sample. Itā€™s super weird, Iā€™ve reported it to Akai and on mpc-forums too.

Bummer since I already activated the OPX4 demo and was looking forward to messing with it a bit. Ah well, hope they fix the bug anyway.

Ahh, that is disappointing, sorry to hear it. Might hold off a bit then.

Yeah I loaded the same project after reverting back and the problem vanished. So unfortunately def caused by the update. I tried 2.11.2 before reverting too, so hereā€™s hoping for 2.11.3 lol

OPX4 is worth it though

It sounds cool and did like it from the few minutes I had with it, but itā€™s not worth me not being able to make music imo, and I have a Digitone anyway (amongst other FM options).

For sure. Plenty of bad sites out there. Doesnā€™t excuse AKAIs site tho.

No. Not gonna pick any of those up. Iā€™m broke. If I would get anyā€¦Iā€™d do OPx-4 and/or Fabric, if I where to get any at all. The rest donā€™t fit with me. And Iā€™m pretty set with my sound sources.

Iā€™m in love with the OPx4 and I hope the modulation matrix can be a template for future synths!

I never thought I needed a sample layer on my fm, but it can add a lot.

One thing to keep in mind about it, maybe two:

  • envelopes have a time scale which affects how fast they are, this is good but on the Init patch env 5/6 have a timescale of 10% by default. It makes sense in context but itā€™s odd;
  • Envelopes can be one shot AND tempo synced. So if you layer them like I showed in my video, you can trigger nicely timed one shot sounds as part of a drum kit.

I wonder if you can run the auto sampler on the AKAI on itself and make sample banks from the new plugs

Sure you can, even if its not working internally you should be able to do it with midi

I have not updated yet, not sure if I will either, can anyone answer these?

Do I get loads more preset content and plugin demos installed?

I have zero interest in the sounds browser, probability, ratcheting, Ableton stuff, the new fx, pad to keygroup, or buying any sounds or plugins, I do think the menu customisation looks handy, but is there anything else to the update worth considering?

I just use mine like a old school MPC - my own samples, not interested in the synths or ready rolled content, it already annoys me I canā€™t delete all the cheeze.

Should I skip this update?
