MPC Thread : MPC Live - MPC X - MPC One (Part 2)

Thanks. That’s exactly what I did yesterday. It didn’t work but this morning it does work. The issues was not on my side.
I installed the trial version of OPx4. I’m testing it.

You don’t need to skip it. The update still provides good old-fashioned stability enhancements. You don’t need to use the new features if you don’t want to

On paper I was very interested by probabilities and OPx4 but not by the new effects. I was wrong. Flavor FX is very cool, especially the flutter and noise tweaks.

This. It doesn’t really add any extra fluff.

My biggest gripe with the update is that saving now requires 2/3 button presses, depending on where you are.

Clearly OPx4 is the best of plugins synths until now. But I found it too expensive. For the price you can get a Volca FM and you’re closed to the price of a second hand M:C.

The tuner is nice. :wave::joy:

Doesn’t all of the mpcs have that button shortcut?
*shift+browse

I had a similar thought to this yesterday… OPX4 perked my interest in FM again, $150 though!??

Instead, I downloaded 4 FM synths to my iPad for less than $50, all of which are far more interesting to me than the Akai one.
Easy to integrate with my MPC and use elsewhere too.

Good to know, thanks.

Had some more time to play around with the OPx4.

I’m very impressed! It is a very nicely complex engine. I like the extensively tweakable envelopes; far better than the simple adsr’s in my opsix. The 32 slot mod matrix is deep and allows for slots modulating other slots.

OPx4 is a fullreplacement for my OPSIX for me.

I look at it this way: by selling my opsix I earn back the investment for the full plugin bundle
So by moving my fm-synth into my mpc I get a free strings, piano ,ep, organ and fabric :upside_down_face:

I’ve thought some more about the new plugs. I would like to have them all eventually, mainly because of workflow and convenience. To have so many options, all inside the ”box”.

But I’m in no rush so I’ll just hang tight and hope for a sale

What I really like about the OPx4 is how the submix/filters/effect slots work with each other, really powerful and flexible.
What I don’t like is that the values in the fine tune seem quite arbitrary and navigating the matrix/operators in standalone mode.

BUT the Akai engineers made a great job at adapting an FM interface to the MPC.
For a mouse-phobic person like me, the OPx4 is actually fun to program.

The live 2 doesn’t have a browse button :frowning:

Isn’t it shift+menu?

Yes

Had a little spare time to play around with the MPC and the update and I’m a very happy camper.

I still can’t get over the fact that I have a smallish music production center which runs on a battery and has a built in speaker. My ears tire quite fast on headphones and it’s just magical to be able to sit in a recliner on our summer cabin and make music basically better and easier than on any other device. For me this thing beats any laptop setup. Less hassle, nothing to divide my attention. Just concentrated music making bliss with no pauses. My girlfriend is outside tending the garden and I can just bang away with no-one getting annoyed.

The OPx-4 is a great FM-synth. If I was a wealthier dude, I’d buy it in a heartbeat. I’m saving the trial periods on the other new synths for a later day, I’ll test one at a time. Especially the Organ one tickles my fancy quite a lot. I guess I’m waiting for the synths to come down in price and also for the NGNY2022 to end, until I buy them.

That brings you to the browse menu, not to the save menu. My complain was that it now takes more button presses to save

Impressive length there, Sir!

can’t remember who said it above but shift+play start for metronome is so useful. Allows me to turn on and off the metronome in looper. Thanks whoever said it!

wish there was a loop capture option in looper. I just mean it records and goes straight to overdub or playback. I’d rather it just did neither. When I use it to resample loops it’s great but obviously it goes straight on to play the sound doubled up which sucks. Don’t know if anyones got a workaround for this or if I’m missing something
