MPC Thread : MPC Live - MPC X - MPC One (Part 2)

You can now and not just drum synths, let me show you:

Yep, thatā€™s a good workaround to make it happen. :+1:

I keep picturing it like how the Analog Rytm works, so you could have the drum synth engine available along side samples right within the Drum Program.

ā€¦ā€œim just do it because I like itā€ :+1:t6: :+1:t6: :+1:t6:

good vid

You can do that too, just load samples on the relevant pad or use pad link. I wish it was more straightforward but I saved my template and that helps.

Now you make me wish I had talked about my coffee while doing that.
I made the same in Italian and I actually drank a coffee during the recording to please the audienceā€¦

ā€œHere is the Kick drumā€ camera shake
ā€œHere is the snareā€ camera shake
ā€œThis sends out to OPx4ā€ camera shaaaaaaaaaaakes

Thank you so much for the video

Well, I donā€™t have the best setup, imagine what happens when I record a finger drumming videoā€¦

something else I find helpful is to offset the notes in the chords by various degrees from one another to make them sound more realistic than mechanical, if youā€™re using pad performance mode, and if youā€™re not itā€™s still good for after the fact experimentation sometimes

That helped a ton, thank you! Polymeters are not possible with this keysplit method, i.e one instrument from that drum program cycles after 5 beats ? I could have a 2nd midi clip controlling that same program ? ( would be an idea?)

MPC series doesnā€™t have ā€œmidi clipsā€. Each track on each sequence can have its own number of beats but all time signatures remain the same (although you can insert time signature changes in a sequence).

However, when looping back all track lengths are reset so to enable polyrythm like behavior, one has to set the lengh of a sequence to a high number. Although it makes integrating polyrythm like sequences in a song a bit complex.

Live 2 users - do the pads soften with use at all?
Mine has probably had 10hrs use at best, but the pads are really stiff, not at all like 2500/1000 Iā€™ve owned in the past, no ā€˜squishā€™ at all.

I bought my live 2 in december 2020 and the pads still feel stiff compared to my also new MPD. I have a 2000xl as well - bought 2011 second hand. It translates low velocities very good. It disappoints me a little bit how the mpc live 2 feels in comparison. Maybe MPC doctors would prescribe some daily massage. Honestly I am not the finger drumming kind of user and I wish the pads would have been direct and responsive on low velocities right from the start (MPD).

On the MPC X there is a ā€˜Pad Sceneā€™ button for the Q links.Very useful pad with many well used parameters, including a pitch Q link.Which changes the pitch in an analog way and not stepped in semitones.I would like to access this pitch parameter on the MPC One?does anyone here know where it might dwell? Thanx ā€œ ]

Unpopular opinion; Digitone sounds like a true FM synth. OPX4 sounds like Hype synth.

So, what do you think of the Kodamo EssenceFM ?

I have no experience with it.

And are you basing that on presets or programming?

And itā€™s a genuine question, not a snarky response.

Not impossible, Hype and OPx4 shared the same effects and possibly the same filter.

The Digitone is a dedicated FM synth/device. Anything ā€˜dedicatedā€™ is always going to feel more legit.
I havenā€™t got OPX4, I do have a Digitone and really like itā€¦ but, FM generally tends to be FM, itā€™s digital and mathematical in itā€™s nature, itā€™s not like your dealing with analog componentsā€¦ so it comes down to available functionality and workflow really.
Letā€™s not forget the DN is limited to 8 voices as well, which I find strange given the nature of itā€¦ so Iā€™m sure thereā€™s a lot of areas where the OPX4 will outperform it.
I have a Yamaha Reface DX, a Digitone and several iOS/Mac OS FM synths, so Iā€™ve felt zero need for OPX4ā€¦ but Iā€™m sure I could get sounds out of it that I really like.

Digitone definitely sounds a lot better.
