The filter is awesome on sp16, big plus.
I use my DJS1000 a great deal - to make tunes or to jam over other ones.
Just picked up a xdj700 to work with my DJS using pro link for locked in sync. Will be feeding it stems and , originals and re rubs for more on the fly jams
no, i think the price drop is cause of the DJS-1000, the MC-707 relase and the fact that no1 want to buy it.
I ordered the sp-16 again cause i sent it back as i bought it in 2016 cause it could nearly do nothing and had some hardware problems too.
well musicstore is selling it 500 ā¬ less then to begin and they give you a gig bag with it for free. so they want to get their storage free.
the bad thing is: my toraiz looked as he was in the storage room since they got them in 2016 cause the rubber of the potis was bleeding out and looked like mold on it.
that and the fact that 1.6 update not realy made things better made me bring it back right on the next day.
also the HPF blopp when you turn the knob is still there. So in total thx for nothing pioneer and wasting so much resources and money on that thing.
Big promises and nothing delivered!
just my 2 cents
Wow
Sorry to hear that, sounds like they sold an opened and/or returned product. I had to send back my SP16 due to faulty screen, I was under the return period and new unit was sent out next day working flawlessly now( fingers crossed).
I love the sound and the filters, sequencer is pretty basic compared to elektron but works well and the āparameter locksā are a nice touch.
Blasphemy I am sure but I find myself much more immediately productive with the SP16 than my OT MKII.
I was looking at a BB to compliment but at this time making use of new iPad Pro with Beatmaker 3 ( for multisampling/keymapping duties) and add on OT MKII later.
This would be my 3rd and last time I purchase the SP16 (definetly keeping it)
not to forget the dead pixel i had in the display! but that was a point where i can say ok i can arrange with.
good luck man!
well i love the hardware of the sp.16 too. that was the sampler we all wanted and needed. 16 x Pads AND step sequencer. Touch display many outputs and all that + Analog Filters. 256 MB RAM all is nice and wow ā¦ but the Firmware fucked it for me totaly
In my eyes and for my workflow the machine is useless. that is a pitty, cause as i saw the promotion video in 2016 i (and for sure many others) thought that pioneer will revolutionize the sampler marketā¦ well they didnāt
And pioneer got plenty of feedback on how close they were to having the best sampler. They genuinely didnāt appear to give a shit.
Stuff like this makes me wish I had four arms.
Once the SP-16 sells out in the US at the low $899 I suspect thats it for the model and Dave Smith relationship

Those analog filters are special ----I think the SP-16 is a future classic
the whole Toraiz line looks like experiments to me. Once made, not really supported by the company after release (The AS-1 is a great example of that). The SP-16 looks cool, but now the the Akai MPC One is out, it looks lackluster. The One blows it away in terms of price point and functionality. Flipside - some guy did an interesting vid on comparing the SP-16 and MPC Live - >https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5q1A25KS48E
Looks like the big āahaā was that the SP-16 didnāt have an āundoā function readily available. Kind of a big deal. Solid pass on Toraiz products.
AS-1 kills it every time man. Just listen to one in person and youāll know.
Dunno. Itās an extremely nice and fully-featured little monosynth.
The price is finally dropping in Europe too !
price is dropped since a long time because there are only old devices left that bleed out liquid plastic. i know caus i bought it for testing the new firmware. send it back 2 days later to the dealer.
Iām sure it sounds great. But the support to fix the sync issue on changing presets is non existent. I researched the support site and saw a big lack of fw updates for a few years now. Looks like it has some nice bassy sounds though.
Itās true that there is no universal undo button, but there is a dynamic record undo. You can hit Shift + Record and it will undo the last recording. That was added in 1.4. The SP16 sounds great, and is a joy to use, as long as you donāt expect it to be something it isnāt.
The sync issue does suck on the AS-1, which is why I ended up selling it. Although I may get one again sometime, because from what I understand, the issue isnāt there if you sequence it from other gear. Not ideal, but the internal sequencer isnāt all that great anyway. I do agree that Pioneer has dropped the ball on a couple things here though, but in the end, they make some great sounding products in the SP-16 and AS-1
