Pioneer Toraiz SP-16

Ah. My bad. I really thought it did for some reason. Maybe I was thinking resampling.

hey guys, how do I set up a track in the SP-16 so that i.e. a drum break (a pefect length loop, sliced onto the 16 pads) does not choke itself whilst finger drumming? because by default it does that and its kinda useless this way. please just dont tell me you cannot change this
by choke i mean the MPC choke kinda function

Sorry to say, but afaik you canā€™t disable choke when using slice mode. The only way to do it would be to copy the sample across the pads and adjust you start/end points per pad.

Each track is monophonic so it will cut each chop off. This would only be an issue if youā€™re playing realtime. If there are breaks in the sound or its cutting the last sound short once sequenced then the time stretch is not turned on. Turning it on should solve that issue provided the sample details include the proper length and Bpm saved with it.

Has anyone sequenced a Vermont DRM with an sp-16? I really want that sp-16 bit need the DRM sequenced by it. Thanks.

There is no reason is shouldnā€™t, all 16 tracks on the SP-16 can be used as MIDI tracks and the DRM has MIDI in so I assume it can be sequenced externally by MIDI.

Not a DRM. But a lot of other machines (mostly Roland). It would work in the same way I imagine. I set the pads I want all to the same midi channel and adjust the base note for each.

Thanks guys(gals)

I actually want to run the SP-16 to sequence 4 channels for my pulsar 23 and 8 channels for my DRM mk4.

I do have a Force but trying to sell it as I want to get away from all in one boxes like that or the MPC.

I do have a digitakt and thought about buying another and using one for the DRM and one for 4 synths plus the Pulsar but I really want some kind of song mode.

So, thinking SP-16 and then using my A4 for rudimentary midi with song mode and just hoping that the A4 and SP-16 sync together well!

I really like the arranger (song mode) on the SP-16. I havenā€™t had any transport/sync issues over MIDI between the SP-16 and other gear. Iā€™ve even had it synced up over Pioneer DJ link to my CDJs and sending clock/sync to other gear over MIDI simultaneously.

Out of curiosity, how did you land on the SP-16 if you are mostly looking for a MIDI sequencer? There seem to be a ton of cool MIDI sequencers out there these days.

Still my favorite piece of gear

i have a MC 707 with 2 Mono or 4 Stereo inputs, what would you sugest

Output 1 Kick
Output 2 Percs
Output 3 Bass
Output 5 synths.

or do i have the pair the outputs 1 en 2 together or can i route them separate?

Iā€™ll give you thisā€“I canā€™t easily find it in the manual.

Edit, go to the mixer page and look for the ā€œAssign Modeā€ button to the left. It seems from the documentation you might be able to split the stereo pairs but Iā€™m not certain. You may just have to experiment or find a YouTube video that explains it unless someone else comes in to answer : )

You can have the outputs all paired, all individual, or have master on 1+2 with 3-8 individual.

finally got one
very happy about it, after a week of some playing around
now im looking forward to sample some stuff from the vox and try to play it with some arp and bass/leads patterns from the DN

the only thing that bothers me so far is that I get occasional double trigs from the pads
got it new, so i hope it might get better as it gets somehow worn out a little
not sure, my first pads to playā€¦ somebody else getting the double trigs?

sorry for the photo. old phone, bad light

I have both MC 707 and pioneer SP-16 no idea how Iā€™m going to use them? now use them as separate grooveboxes.

Something I learned after pretty much entirely liquidating a much larger setup than I have nowā€“donā€™t feel obligated to use every piece of gear in every song/project.

In a live setting I could see using each as its own solo instrument. Sync via MIDI. If you have some kind of mixer thatā€™d be a great way to transition between a beat on one machine to another beat on the other.

Or as mentioned make loops/one shots on the MC707 to feed the SP-16. Additionally you could sacrifice a channel on the SP-16 to use a Thru track and maybe just the MC707 for synths and the SP-16 for everything else?

hi guys, do you have any recommendations regarding transport and travelling with the sp-16 other than the official bag? i would buy that but ive got more gear and ideally i would fit it together with 2 or 3 more smaller pieces of gear - td-3, a kaoss pad, a guitar pedal etc. i mean IDEALLY i would there much more but you know what i mean
im checking some generic flight cases but i dunno really, considering building a diy transport case. rifle cases look good too
