Pioneer Toraiz SP-16

I really like these Gator “soft” bags for hauling gear in my vehicle. I have one the SP-16 fits in.

If it’s any help, I found that the double trigger issue is only present with real-time quantize on. If you turn it off it seems to stop it but then you have to do your quantizing after the fact.

Not a big deal in the studio or for a jam but I could see it being a buzzkill if you wanted to sequence in a live setting.

Hi everyone,

I have my SP 16 as an external in ( L/R on the MC 707 as a track. I want to sync the Roland MC 707 with the SP 16 but the MC 707 is drifting and not in sync. The SP16 is the master clock. Can get them sync?

Make the MC-707 the master, it doesn’t like being slave.

It looks like Pioneer may have dropped the SP-16. It’s no longer on their website.

Product page gets a 404: https://www.pioneerdj.com/en-gb/product/production/toraiz-sp-16/black/overview/

No longer listed here: https://www.pioneerdj.com/en-gb/product/production/

The DJS-1000 is still listed.

If you got an SP-16, you’ve got a modern day classic. Don’t sell it.

No longer on Sweetwater

https://www.sweetwater.com/store/search.php?s=toraiz

Or Perfect Circuit

https://www.perfectcircuit.com/catalogsearch/result/?q=toraiz

Amazon’s got one for a lot of money

Apparently unlisted at canadian retailer long-mcquade.

Any chance @JustinValer and the MD team want to tackle a new project?

PS I do understand that, to us lesser skilled computer folk, this is a huge ask of any programmer and quite frankly a mystery(again to myself) as to whether or not its even possible. I’m mostly kidding anyway…sort of…kind of serious…but joking…but maybe?..whatever…

Still up on the US site: TORAIZ SP-16 16 track production sampler (black) - Pioneer DJ

But I think it’s inevitable. The lack of support and updates is palpable as well as predictable, but I bought in very late in the game and knew that. I love mine and have no plans to sell it. Same with the Squid.

I’m convinced we’ll never see any new updates which is sad, but I can live with what’s there and just appreciate it for what it is. I did have a pretty awesome feature idea (at least in my mind) though. It would have been amazing if they could have had some sort of voice stealing (allocating) like an Elektron A4 can do. Something where you could say you wanted like 3-4 ‘voices’, then select the pad(s) you want to allocate and which should be the primary. The primary pad could then have multiple voices for things like chords. You could then resample the primary pad and free up the others. I know there’s workarounds to achieve the same end result, but seems like an ‘easy’ solution for polyphonic pads. :man_shrugging:

I kind of miss my SP-16, it’s such a great concept. Will we see another Toraiz?

The product page is still shown at the US site as of today: https://www.pioneerdj.com/en-us/product/production/toraiz-sp-16/black/overview/

However, based on all other signs, it does appear to be discontinued.

I wonder will Pioneer DJ release a version 2 or any other Toraiz product. I still enjoy using my SP-16, in spite of its flaws.

It’s the S1000 of this generation. Record in and then magic comes out.

That was to be expected. :smirk:

Damn. Was seriously going to pick up a backup. Hopefully can find a decent used one or NOS for not a stupid price. It is the perfect hub between my synths and sample sources and my DAW. Great place to get the gist down and then export the basic arrangement to 16 tracks.

Suddenly they were all gone from swedish shops. Appears i slept too long on this one.

Oh well.

I had one and I think it was a flawed masterpiece. But still flawed. Rather than refine the sequencer they released the squid which I thought was a corporate dick move. Sounded amazing and I get a bit misty eyed about buying another but then I remember how limited it was. Pioneer missed out. I see the hype machine is going into overdrive now it appears to be a goner.

One going cheap on here in the UK! https://www.elektronauts.com/t/fs-uk-pioneer-sp-16/162513

I’ve had one since last spring. Definitely has it’s flaws, limitations and frustrations but I was aware going in - in fact I think it was this thread where I discovered the existence of this forum when researching it.

It is a shame that’s it’s so close to being ridiculously good and imo just a few things can make it a pita sometimes. Definitely a keeper for now though

I bought one brand new fairly recently and I’m basically happy with it in terms of the price and what it does, but it’s a shame as it really would be something special with a small handful of updates. The “core” of what this machine does is still great and it does what it does very well, if you can live with a few shortcomings.

If you want to make “dance music” (as we say in the UK) with one box and no computer, it’s really rather good! Get yourself a load of one-shot drum samples and some free loops off the interweb and away you go!

Perhaps when we get tired of it the resale price will be decent if it’s now a discontinued “classic”. Silver linings and all that.

Hi,

is the Root key in Chromatic mode the same as with the Mc 707 in C?
